Outside of its steel applications, manganese is quietly becoming a significant contributor to the electric vehicle market, as it is also used in clean energy applications and the manufacturing of nickel-metal hydride and lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles. The newly introduced lithiated manganese dioxide battery is also considered a significant driver for future manganese consumption and the World Steel Association forecast short term demand from 2022 – 2025 to grow by 2% per annum, as the market fundamentals supporting acquisition remain competitive.
